THIS BUILT-IN ELECTRIC FIREPLACE HACK MAY POST A FIRE RISK. PLEASE DO NOT REPLICATE IF YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW TO ENSURE SAFETY OF THIS HACK.
I used the BESTÅ system to create this fireplace hack. I needed 2 double units, 4 door panels, 2 drawers to complete this.
IKEA item used:
BESTÅ frame (47 1/4 x 15 3/4 x 29 1/8″) x 2Door panels x 4Low drawers x 2

Non IKEA item:
Electric fireplace (pay attention to depth and weight of fireplace unit. And make sure it can be recess mounted. I used the Tangkula 36 Inches Recessed Electric Fireplace because it only used 3” in depth and weighted only 33 lbs.)

What I did to hack my built-in electric fireplace
I butted and fastened 2 BESTÅ double frames together. I finished the two ends with doors. Behind the doors, shelves for storage.
Then I modified the 2 center cavities to accommodate the built-in fireplace.
I used the low drawer and mounted it to door front (used cheap drawer front to figure hole spacing). Drawer is mounted on slides at bottom of cabinets, the 2 doors and drawers are joined together with mending plates.
Once I received the fireplace I did measurements and made following cutouts:
Both drawer units needed cutout to compensate for fireplace depth.Center frame panel needed cutout to compensate for fireplace cutout.Door fronts cutout opening for fireplace.
Mount 2 drawers to door fronts, join them together and install on slides.
Insert fireplace, secure fireplace, plug in and enjoy.
Both center door fronts pull out simultaneously for access and storage behind fireplace.
